I mean, why are the posts by PeterBlack, SV Wrangler concerning what not to buy for a first bike constantly in the sidebar and/or immediately under the comments as recommended. Not that they aren’t good advice, but I’d like some recommendations for new articles I haven’t read.

If you dont buy a cafe racer as a first bike, mission accomplished! You can thank him for saving your life, from what i understand it would have been a terrible descision.

because they were mainpaged and people continue to link to them, so they are “popular” according to kinja. It’s not like mods get to pick what to put in the sidebar or something.

We don’t know who or what controls the recommendations, but we are not in a position to question this supreme being. How about you stop with the questions and be assimilated?

Do you mean just the creation of links, or is it the clicking of those links that triggers it? I thought it was based on whatever’s getting the most page visits at the time.

Mildly educated guess -
Try googling “cafe racer first bike”. What’s the #1 answer?
The stories are getting traffic from there, because the weather is nice and n00bs are shopping for their first bike.

since they’re continually linked to any related FP articles, people continue to give them clicks, so yes.

I think I see what you mean. It’s not just clicks within Oppo, but outside visitors finding links in front page articles or Oppo articles that have been directly shared to the FP. Links within links...
I wonder if maybe it’s not actually a huge number of incoming clicks on those old posts, but only just enough clicks to make them slightly more popular than the most popular posts posted today. Just enough to trigger Kinja to do its thing...

I’m more annoyed with the seemingly hourly sunchaser posts.

The cafe racer one is simple. Google cafe racer. Not even cafe racer first bike. Just cafe racer. Its like 3rd link. And i tagged other articles there too.
Sorry/not sorry.

Someone had a good idea a while ago to put a time limit, so that no matter how popular a post was it wouldn’t show up if it was more than say a week old.

Despite the “reasons” why, I’m with you - I got tired of those exact same links a long time ago.
And in an ironic twist, have you taken a gander at the articles just below?
We’re going to break the internet.
